I whistled before I talked. I was born in Africa, where there is no winter and people love to whistle — where colors are magnificent, spices tickle the nostrils, birds always sing, and sugar has a central place in daily life. I have fond memories of riding the train, captivated by the sun caressing the sea and spreading a glittering gold cape over the waves. Surrounded by that constant beauty of color and light, I grew fascinated, and my eye was sharpened.
Independence changed the course of our lives. My parents and I moved to France, where we had to adapt to a new culture and a different way of life — an experience that broadened my mind and sparked a lasting passion for travel, languages, and unfamiliar cultures.
When I was twelve, I received a camera for Christmas — a small black box, without lenses or flash. That was the beginning of a long love story, and of a lifelong series of experiments to capture light and the bliss of a fleeting moment.
I moved to the United States in 1999 and have lived in Washington, DC for close to twenty years. I began showing my work in 2015, and have since been juried into exhibitions in New York City, the Washington DC area, Grosse Pointe (Michigan), and Tucson (Arizona). My photographs have been exhibited in galleries in New York, Washington DC, and Mexico City, and published in newspapers across the United States.
I take my photographs with my emotions, not with my mind. When I press the shutter, my heart is pounding — I've encountered a scene that has moved my soul. I capture fleeting moments that, a second later, no longer exist: instants where light, color, and life align in perfect harmony and become something whole.
President (2021–2025), Washington Printmakers Gallery, DC — now a board member of the Washington Printmakers Foundation. Founder of an art school offering classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, dance, and creative arts, with grants awarded to children from low-income families.
